How to move strength coaching clients from Google Sheets

Move strength coaching clients from Google Sheets without rebuilding years of old programs. Transfer only what you need to keep coaching.

Move what you need for the next block

Keep each client's old spreadsheet as the archive. Move active clients when they need their next block, and copy only the workout structure and recent training numbers you need to continue. You do not need to recreate years of old programs.

CoachBlocks does not automatically import a Google Sheet. The practical alternative is to rebuild the next block, then leave the old file where it is in case you need to check earlier training. If you are still deciding whether to move, the Google Sheets comparison explains which work CoachBlocks takes on and which work remains in your existing tools.

A simple migration order

Take one client through the full process before moving the rest of the roster. Start with someone whose next block is due, so their old training stays in one place and their new training starts in another.

  • Choose an active client whose next block is due.
  • Add the client and enter recent weight, reps and sets for the exercises you plan to keep.
  • Recreate the next block, or reuse a suitable workout structure already in CoachBlocks.
  • Fill any missing starting numbers and check every week.
  • Publish the block and send the client's reusable link.
  • Repeat the process when the next active client needs a block.

A two-day example

Suppose a client's current spreadsheet has two training days, followed by months of older blocks:

  • Day 1: Back Squat and Bench Press.
  • Day 2: Deadlift and Barbell Row.

What to move from that sheet

Move the two workout days, the four exercises in their current order, and the sets and reps you want in the next block. For each weighted exercise, the useful starting information is a recent set the client completed: weight, reps and sets. The older blocks, comments and training logs can stay in the spreadsheet.

If you do not have a relevant completed set for one of those exercises, its load stays blank. CoachBlocks will not work out a Barbell Row from the client's Deadlift or Bench Press. Enter the starting weight, reps and sets you want to use, then check the weekly loads before publishing. An unfinished exercise stays hidden from the client until its missing number is supplied.

Reuse workouts without mixing client data

Once you have written a suitable workout in CoachBlocks, you can use its structure to start another client's block. It copies the workout names, exercise order, exercise type, sets, reps, rep ranges, AMRAP, time and distance.

The first client's weights, logged sets, bodyweight, training history and personal details do not move with it. Loads for the second client use that client's own completed work on the same exercise. If that information is missing, the load remains blank for you to fill.

Publish the block and start the new history

After you review the block, publish it and send the client's reusable link. They do not need a CoachBlocks account, password or app. The same link opens their newest published block, and they record what they complete there.

Those completed sets are available when you prepare a later block. Logged work on the same exercise takes priority over the starting number you entered during the move. Before writing that block, review what the client actually logged.

You still choose the exercises, workout structure, sets, reps, block length and programming changes. CoachBlocks handles the load arithmetic, formatting and delivery, and keeps the completed training ready for your next review.
